Japan Craft Accessories

About

sa-iwai Shop

Sa-iwai sells traditional Japanese craft accessories, individually handmade by contemporary creators, to the world.

Rather than just selling products, we aim to encourage people to reexamine their lifestyles through traditional craft accessories, such as the "spirit of cherishing things" that resides in Japanese culture, and to promote

"beauty of the heart."

Our

Concept

Experience the five "connections" through traditional craft accessories and regain the "beauty of the heart" in your busy daily lifestyle.

1) "Connect" with the thoughts that reside in the accessories

Sa-iwai accessories are one-of-a-kind products, carefully crafted one by one by creators. The belief that objects have a heart and soul, in other words, "nature worship" that "man-made objects also have life, are located in their proper place, and exist in harmony with nature". Why not try wearing an accessory and experience receiving the thoughts of the creator?

2) "Connect" with the spirit of cherishing things

In Japan, there is a unique Japanese craftsmanship spirit of treating even small things like accessories with gratitude. Therefore, the culture of cherishing things is deeply rooted.

The sustainable mindset of repairing and continuing to use things instead of throwing them away when they break is exactly what is needed in today's age. Why not try to experience a mind-altering experience through the "spirit of cherishing things"?

3) "Connect" to the tradition of Japanese culture

In fact, when you purchase accessories from sa-iwai, you are connected to the tradition of Japanese traditional crafts. Traditional craft artisans are currently declining in Japan due to aging and a lack of successors.

Therefore, sa-iwai deliberately collaborates with creators, rather than artisans, and aims to train successors to carry on the techniques by disseminating and selling their products to the world. So why not purchase accessories and contribute to the tradition of Japan?

4) "Connect" to a sustainable future through sustainable materials

At first glance, it is difficult to tell what materials traditional craft accessories are made of, but the truth is that they are made from Japanese washi paper and kimono fabric.

Washi paper in particular is attracting attention as a sustainable material because not only the material itself but also the process of making it has a low environmental impact. Why not incorporate sustainable products into your future fashion?

5) Traditional crafts connect to "beauty of the heart"

By incorporating traditional crafts into your lifestyle, you will surely experience a change in your mindset. For example, Mizuhiki crafts are said to have the power to purify and purify things and ward off evil spirits, as they become refreshing after the water is drawn from them.

That is why in Japan, they are mainly used to decorate celebrations and gifts with care.

This cultivates the "heart of caring for others (through objects)" that is unique to Japanese culture. Why not get yourself some fashion tools to live a rich life?

Our

Vision

"Wearing traditions that have been updated to suit the modern age,

you make a contribution yourself."

By re-editing traditional crafts that are in danger of declining and delivering them to women around the world, sa-iwai envisions not only rediscovering the commercial value of the crafts,

but also providing an opportunity for Japanese people to rediscover their appeal,

and further contributing to the preservation of traditional crafts.

Shop Owner

Message

Hello. I'm Yoiko, the owner of the sa-iwai shop.

I've been involved in "travel content" in various forms, such as tour conductor, planning and arrangement, and inbound business, in the travel industry for over 10 years.

However, one day, I suddenly thought...

"Tours made by Japanese travel agencies are boring!"

Why is that? The potential charm of Japan has not yet been discovered as content, and it has not been conveyed to not only Japanese people but also overseas travelers.

Since I realized that, I continued to search for where the "charm of Japan" is. And I arrived at "Japanese culture rooted in the region". The culture that has been passed down in various parts of Japan has its own originality depending on the region, and is full of charm that Japanese people who inherit the Japanese spirit should be proud of. I want to excavate and re-edit such Japanese culture and spread it to the next generation and the world! That was the trigger for me to open the sa-iwai shop.

Because I got to know Japan deeply through my travel work, I arrived at the current situation and challenges of Japanese culture, and the charm that lies dormant in various parts of Japan.

Driven by a sense of mission that only I can fulfill, I will convey Japanese culture to the world in my own original style.

Women in their 40s like me face many life stages, such as marriage, childbirth, job change, and challenges, and each time there comes a time when we have to face our current selves. The job that is best for me now, what I want to do now, and the fashion that is perfect for me now...

I truly feel that it is precisely in this age group with many life stages that I want it to be fashionable.

The accessories we sell at sa-iwai are perfect for women who are busy with work, hobbies, and parenting every day, yet wish to enrich their lives. We run the shop with the hope that women around the world will enjoy accessory fashion even more.

May modern traditional craft accessories become a part of your wonderful fashion life.
