Japan Craft Accessories
About
sa-iwai Shop
sa-iwai sells traditional Japanese craft accessories made by contemporary creators, each handcrafted, to the world.
Our
Concept
Japan has regarded traditional crafts created by craftsmen trained for more than 10 years as "guardians of tradition".
However, this approach contributes to the growing social problems of an aging workforce and an acute shortage of successors. Part of Japan's culture is now on the verge of disappearing.
At sa-iwai, we believe that preserving Japanese culture in a purely conservative way is not how culture is meant to thrive. Culture should continuously evolve, adapting to modern lifestyles and needs. It’s not something to be preserved solely for its historical value but rather something to be reimagined and revitalized.
That’s why we focus on collaborating with contemporary creators who blend traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities. By maintaining the craftsmanship and sustainable materials, while reinterpreting its appeal through stylish designs, we aim to create a new way of passing down Japanese culture. This approach allows us to uncover new charms and possibilities for traditional arts.
Through our business, we strive to introduce Japanese accessories to women worldwide—not just by selling accessories, but by providing unique services made possible through our partnerships with modern creators. Every purchase helps nurture contemporary creators, preserve traditional craftsmanship, and ultimately bring Japanese culture into the future.
Our
Vision
It is our vision of the future and the pride of Japan that women around the world will become aware of the appeal of Japan accessories, and that the number of women who will stroll around the world with their ears decorated with "Japan culture" will increase.
Shop Owner
Message
Hello, my name is Yoiko, and I am the owner of the sa-iwai shop.
I’ve always been captivated by Japanese traditional culture, including tea ceremonies, ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock prints), and kabuki theater, and I’ve enjoyed exploring these passions over the years. In 2023, I found myself drawn to incorporating "Japan" into fashion as well. I instantly fell in love with the beauty and functionality of accessories crafted with traditional Japanese artisan techniques, which inspired me to open this shop, sa-iwai.
Women in their 40s like me face many life stages, such as marriage, childbirth, job change, and challenges, and each time there comes a time when we have to face our current selves. The job that is best for me now, what I want to do now, and the fashion that is perfect for me now...
I truly feel that it is precisely in this age group with many life stages that I want it to be fashionable.
Modern Japanese traditional artisan accessories are incredibly lightweight—almost like wearing zero gravity. They offer vibrant touches of Japanese culture, are made with sustainable materials, and combine functionality with stunning design. I firmly believe these accessories surpass any others in the world in terms of innovation and quality.
The accessories we sell at sa-iwai are perfect for women who are busy with work, hobbies, and parenting every day, yet wish to enrich their lives. We run the shop with the hope that women around the world will enjoy accessory fashion even more.
May modern traditional craft accessories become a part of your wonderful fashion life.
